Bold Ben Hall

In the late 1970s, Australian artist and historian Monty Wedd (1921 – 2012) researched and produced a weekly newspaper adventure strip that fully detailed bushranger Ben Hall‘s life. This book collects, for the very first time, each of the 393 episodes of Monty’s history-making undertaking. Reproduced from the original artwork, this volume should appeal equally to those passionate about well-researched Australian history and to those who enjoy a well-told visual adventure story.
“The effect of seeing and reading Monty Wedd‘s Bold Ben Hall in all of its entirety is amazingly powerful. I feel sorrow that Monty is not here to experience the phenomenon. It’s an extremely important publishing event.” — Peter Foster, Australian comic adventure artist Ballantyne.
This hardback book should be on all Australian Library shelves: it is the most detailed of all of Monty’s historical works. This is a large and heavy book: measuring 380 cm x 270 cm. There is an introduction to the volume by Justin Wedd, one of Monty’s sons. A short history of the comic strip, written by Australian comic historian (ahem, me!) Nat Karmichael is also included.
